My heart pounded when their first set of flowers bloomed. But as my makeup artist spirit in me still exists, I made a lipstick experiment with it-beautiful color, the red pigment is really intense (didn’t last very long on my lips though) Nevertheless, Roselle is a super plant, commonly grown in tropical regions of the world, especially the Caribbean, India, and Southeast Asia. The whole plant can be used. The leaves are delicious, used in sauces and curries. The flowers can be eaten raw or made into a refreshing cold drink or hot tea. It is important to introduce local edible plants and fruits to our diets, not only increasing our range of vitamins and trace minerals but discovering new flavors we wouldn’t normally experience from supermarket products. When I grow my own food, the availability is almost endless.
